Slice of Life: Day 8
I have a new found respect for people whose job it is to take an order and enter it into the register. Tonight was our McTeacher night at McDonald’s to benefit our school and PTO. I was hoping to be the friendly greeter and pass out balloons like last year or anything that didn’t require me to go behind the counter. Well, all the greeter jobs were taken, which only left behind the counter! And if that wasn’t bad enough then they said there was a register open! Oh god. My worst nightmare. I don’t even enter in my order at restaurants that have a kiosk because I do not have the patience to look for the right button to select and then if I want to make a substitution or add something on don’t even get me started!
The register so colorful, pictures on the buttons… So. Many. Buttons.
“Cheeseburger, small fry, medium coke.”
Is that under lunch 1? Lunch 2? Does the size come first or the food item?
Again, so many buttons.
Shamrock shake?! Where am I suppose to find that?
“Shamrock shake, but can you do half chocolate?”
“I am sure you can.” Inside I am thinking, you have got to be kidding me! Does it look like I know how to order that?!
“Big Mac meal.”
A meal? “Is there a number next to that?”
“Bacon cheese fries.”
Cheese fries?! Since when do they have cheese fries?
I have tunnel vision focusing on the screen. Everything else around me is a blur. 30 minutes could now have gone fast enough.
Thank you to the kind employees who helped me find the right button as I stood in awe as your fingers danced across the screen pressing, tapping, moving so fast I couldn’t even follow.
Next year, I will get there earlier. Next year, I will be the friendly greeter. I beg you, please let me be the friendly greeter!
